The Ultimate Fashion Industry Mixer 59

Fashion producer, Joshua James www.JoshuaJamesTalent.com, put on the ultimate fashion industry mixer at Boulevard 3 in Hollywood last week. Designers, stylists, hair and makeup, photographers, models and actresses from all over Southern California came together for this spectacular event. The goal, to bring together celebrities, top fashion professionals and aspiring artists to mix mingle and share their advice and talents was a huge hit! Karina Copado along with her assistant, Anna Karen hosted the red carpet outside while Vassy had everyone to their feet, rocking out to her new beats on the dance floor. The night was capped off with a dazzling out of this world Merlin Castel fashion show, featuring his fall 2011 line entitled, "Space Traveler on Mars". I was privileged enough to be on the behind the scenes team, making sure the production went off with out a hitch. This event was such a great opportunity for people like me who are new to the industry to make contacts and get to meet, mingle and work along side the amazing people in the world of fashion. I can not wait to see what avenues these new contacts might lead me down, and the connections I might make at 59 mixers in the future.

The Mavolus Merlin Castell

Tonight I was had the chance to work behind the scenes at the spectacular Merlin Castell fashion show at the 59 event. From outrageous make up, sculptural hair, stunning headdresses, out of this world designs and dramatic choreography this wasn't just a fashion show, it was a total production. The smoked rolled in as the first model graced the stage. Striking a very stoic pose, she raised her hands to the heaven and commanded the rooms attention. This stunning show went off with out a hitch, but that wasn't with out a ton of work before hand and a half dozen frantic hands back stage during the show. Merlin was there with us every step of the way, helping us do the fittings and trouble shooting the whole way. WHAT A GREAT NIGHT!

A bite from the crafting bug

A few months ago, while shopping at one of my favorite stores, Goodwill, I stumbled upon this rather interesting piece of wall art. The wood was dark and distressed and the rod iron was rusted from probably spending a season or two outside in the elements. I saw so much potential in this blank canvas, and that along with the $2.00 price tag persuaded me to buy it. There it sat in the back of my closet for the past few months untouched. I had been so busy with school and my internship I had forgot about my little project. Last week I stumbled upon it while finally cleaning my closet. I finally had the time to do something for myself now that I have graduated. So I whipped out my FIDM tool box filled with spray paint, lacquer, sandpaper, hot glue and staple gun and went to work. I began by sanding down the entire piece and giving it a nice new coat of paint. If you dont have a canvas, the underside of any throw rug will do the trick in a pinch! I'm sure Martha wouldn't suggest it, but who ever sees the bottom of your rug anyways? The next step was just deciding what direct I wanted to take it. I decided to go through my big box of embellishments, patches, costume jewelry, belts, decals, feathers, beads, buttons... and came across an old metallic belt that gave me my inspiration. From there I just went online and found just the right print for the vase. Using photoshop I was able to customize the size and colors of the pattern so it was just right for my space. After a little glue, a few staples and lacquer it was ready to hang up on the wall. It was just the finishing touch my kitchen needed to bring it all together!

8 Days of Sam

I had the opportunity to work on this campaign for established Boston rapper Sam Adams, when I was approached by Cross Coast Interactive. I took the Boston skyline and after making it black and white decided to bump up the contrast to give it a more edgy feel. I then took the image of Sam Adams himself and imposed it on top of the image. I then dropped the campaign title 'Eight Days of Sam', in a broken font, behind him to fill that negative space. Taking up the contrast of the black and white version of the image of Sam gave them a harder edge option in addition to the color draft.
